While the competition isn’t over (technically), it’s basically all but signed, sealed and delivered. Somehow in a competition that alternated draft positions, David allowed John to get 5 out of the 6 teams with the best records in football this year? Think about that. Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow and Jalen Hurts were all on the same side this season! Woof.
2022 College Football Wins Pool
David won the toss and his choice to defer ended up being the right one. John chose Alabama with his first pick, forgetting entirely that we’re in the midst of the Kirby Smart era, and had to sit idly by as Georgia mopped the floor with everyone all season. What made this fun was the back and forth nature of the competition all year. Swing games every week, random teams that we had to pull for, by the end of the season we were living and dying on games like UCLA v. Pittsburgh without half the starters on both teams playing in the game. We’ve talked about ways to potentially improve this going forward, including only bowl games that are part of the CFP counting towards the total, but having to sweat Miami (FL), Texas A&M and Michigan State all not making bowl games in addition to opt outs, coaching changes and ‘who actually gives AF in the Sun Bowl’ also was great fun. John’s bias towards Penn State ended up being a massive, costly mistake.
2022 March Madness Competition
In our first ever competition, John drafted the eventual National Champions with the #1 overall pick and never really looked back after the second round. After winning the coin toss, David elected to defer to the #2 and #3 picks which cost him dearly. Villanova v. Houston could’ve been a swing game, but David’s #3 overall pick Kentucky losing to Cinderella story St. Peter’s in the first round felt like it from the jump, and eventually was, a death blow.
